Lori and Shawn Anderson

Meet Lori and Shawn and their two children, Todd age 16 and Carly age 6. Lori and Shawn live on a quiet street in Winslow, Maine. They live just 25 miles from Newport/Pittsfield, 20 miles from Augusta, 8 miles from Downtown Winslow, 10 miles from Waterville 2 miles from Albion, 9 miles from Fairfield and 20 miles from Oakland. They live in a quiet rural community, but within a few miles from many recreational and vocational opportunities. Nearby is the Muskie Center, library, and Animal shelter, Skills, CRS and Speaking Up for Us groups.

Lori is a C.N.A. and is certified in CPR, First aid, Disease prevention, Hipaa, Confidentiality, Seizure management, DSP Modules, code of ethics, Infection control, emergency and disaster training, proper lifting, and an 8-hour mediation course. Lori will be attending a 24-hour CRMA course through Momentum. Lori is also Hospice Certified and she is also a hairdresser. Lori has done shared living through Living Innovations in the past, and she currently provides respite services at times through other agencies. Lori has been a C.N.A. since 1988 and worked for “Healthreach” of Waterville for three years and also from 1996 to 2001 Lori worked as a Personal Support Specialist for “Home Care for Maine.” Lori took time off to raise her children and is currently a stay at home mom. Lori and Shawn also have a small business renting apartments. Shawn works for Aulson Industrial Services as an industrial painter, but he plans to participate in helping support an individual who resides with their family.

Lori and Shawn enjoy spending time with family and friends. They love going to the ocean, picnics at Swanville state park, bowling, and swimming, going to the movies, cookouts, bonfires, and pool parties. They also love snowmobiling and they spend a lot of time at their son’s sporting events.

Lori stated that she and Shawn attend church occasionally at the Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield, but that they are not members at this time. They fully understand the importance of allowing folks to worship where they choose and they agreed to assist the individual they support get to the church of their choice.

Lori stated, “Hospice work is sad, but rewarding in some ways. I feel that I have been given more than I gave from working with people over the years. I love working with the elderly population and love to hear their stories.” Lori also stated, “I am who I am because of the path I have chosen and the people I have known and helped.” Both Shawn and Lori are anxious to give of themselves and be part of someone’s life in a positive way.

Neither Lori or Shawn smoke.

Lori and Shawn have a few pets. They have Jasmine, who is a two-year-old Boxer, and who is very friendly and sweet. They also have a bird named Sammy and a rabbit named Condella.

Lori and Shawn’s references describe them as, “reliable, friendly, caring, happy, honest, accomplished, great parents, fun-loving, compassionate, and creative.” Lori and Shawn have become well known throughout their community as “caregivers” and have been part of their children’s school lives in many ways. They actively participate in their children’s school events and are in hopes that the person they support will be happy to join them.

Lori and Shawn’s home is warm and inviting. They keep their home very well maintained and decorated to soothe and create a sense of welcome. The bedroom that is available is directly off the kitchen, but offers a spacious place for privacy and relaxation. The bedroom (right) is carpeted and has a twin bed and dresser available. There is a rocking chair in front of a window that provides a nice sunny and cozy warmth to the room. The home is a one story, open and spacious modular home on a cement slab. They have a nice back yard and porch. Lori describes her neighborhood as “safe, quiet and peaceful. We watch and feed wildlife such as turkeys and deer often.”

Lori and Shawn would like to support a male or female who does not smoke or who would agree to smoke outdoors. They would like to support someone of any age, but who likes to be active in their community and participate in many family outings. Lori would not mind helping someone with personal care, but would prefer to support someone who would like to gain independence in this area.

Lori and Shawn have met all the requirements of Momentum through the Shared Living approval process. Their references highly recommend them for this work. They seem to understand the work they face in this rewarding field. They seem committed to helping someone long term and they seem to understand their role in helping others. Their background checks have all come back fine. They have both agreed to attend the required training as they begin supporting an adult with developmental disabilities. Lori has had years of experience and training in working with people of all ages and abilities. Her incredible experience and knowledge working with people will help her become a great support to someone.

Lori and Shawn are anxious to create a happy and supportive environment for someone and have been approved as shared living providers through Momentum.
