Vision

The Bomb Diggity Bakery provides a stepping stone for individuals with intellectual disabilities who are ready to GROW!! We support an individual’s personal development, self-expression, social growth and increased cultural awareness through baking, creativity and the arts, an introduction to a healthy “green” lifestyle, exposure to and participation in live performance as well as through daily community interaction. This innovative community-based day program involves people of all abilities building skills for the future, adding meaning to life and growing together in ONE community.

Location and General program Information

The Bomb Diggity Bakery is located at 645 Congress Street in downtown Portland, Maine. The bakery/artists’ collective/community-based day program collaborates with and shares a space, kitchen and vision with the Local Sprouts Cooperative. The Bomb Diggity Bakery provides daily baking sessions, art sessions/studio time, participation in and exposure to live performance and workshops as well as opportunities for daily customer/community interaction.

The program holds regular art openings corresponding with Portland’s First Friday Art Walks (art galleries open to the public the first Friday evening of each month). During the Bomb Diggity Bakery art openings, artists can proudly present and discuss their work with the Portland community. Individuals who attend the program also have the opportunity to volunteer with Local Sprouts in a variety of capacities. Local Sprouts Cooperative provides local and organic food with a Café, Community Supported Kitchen, Catering and Food and Learning Programs in Portland, Maine. This unique day program is ideal for those individuals who are ready to take that next step, who are interested in gaining kitchen skills for the future, who want to explore and build creativity and who want to truly be involved in their community. Individuals who are interested in attending the program will be required to take the initiative to interview and apply for a spot at the Bomb Diggity Bakery. The program is guided by our Advisory Board, made up of individuals of all abilities.

The Bomb Diggity Bakery is a program extension of Momentum. Momentum has been providing individualized services for adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the State of Maine since 1996. The agency mission is to value each person as a unique individual while celebrating their talents, respecting their visions and dreams and promoting their self-esteem.
